Samhain Greetings

Lucie Mayer | OCT 31, 2025

Warm wishes and blessings to you on this Halloween or Samhain.

We are at the midway point between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice

Traditionally, a time when the ancients from many cultures believed the "veils between the worlds" were thin. A time to honour the dead, grieve our losses and seek guidance for the future. A time of reverence, letting go and dreaming. It is also traditionally a fire festival; we let go of the heat and warmth of summer and light fires to guide our way in the darkness.

In past years, it is a time when my friend, and gifted ritual maker, Jackie Singer and I have offered workshops around grief and loss. And as I write, I notice a pang of grief that we could not offer you something this year. It is a theme that we are both drawn to and committed to working with, and which we plan to revisit together. It is powerful work in community, but if these are themes you would be interested in exploring through 1 to 1 work, please do be in touch.

Just a few of practices we have shared in groups and 1 to 1 are listed below:

  • Make an altar to remember your ancesters, loved ones, or things lost to you.

  • Light a fire or even a candle and sit with the flame

  • Dance in the dark,

  • Gather with friends and share memories,

  • Write a letter to someone lost to you

Perhaps you can make space for a practice that might feel nourishing for you at this time.

Yoga Therapy for Menopause and Beyond workshop series launching in January 2026

Some of you may know that I have done a lot of extra training and reflection around the menopause transition - itself a time that, for some women, may be associated with loss.

I have developed a course that will run from 2-5pm on the last Sunday of the month from January to June 2026. Made up of 6 3-hour retreat-style workshops exploring various themes and practices. I am particularly excited that the series format means there will be time for sharing and learning over time, and for the group itself to be a support to the women in it.

Thank you to those of you who have helped me hone my thoughts about how to offer this work. I am so happy to finally be bringing it to you.

There is an early bird discount if booked before the 1st of January, and a payment plan is available.

Yoga therapy for sleep

Thank you to those of you who came on my first Yoga Therapy for Sleep course that ran for five weeks in September and October. It was a pleasure to offer you the practice, and very gratifying to hear of the positive effects that came about through your engagement with the work.

I am planning on running another course in the spring, so please be in touch if you would like to go on a waiting list for this.

1 to 1 Yoga Therapy

In parallel with group offerings, I offer 1 to 1 Yoga Therapy. A place for practice that is specifically tailored to you. Through a process of enquiry and reflection, we work together to establish a truly holistic practice that meets the needs of your body/mind system.

Practice may include a combination of movement, breath, sound, yogic and Buddhist teachings, mindfulness and reflection.

Regular yoga classes

I continue to offer weekly in-person yoga classes:

  • The first is at Florence Park Community Centre on Cornwallis Road, on Mondays between 5.30 and 6.30 pm. book via the link below or just turn up!

  • The second is on a Wednesday morning between 7.45 and 8.45 am and can be attended in person or from the comfort of your own home via zoom. Booking is essential for this one, as in-person space is more limited, and if you are attending online, you need to book to receive the Zoom link.

I aim to teach in an accessible and non-dogmatic way, combining movement, breath and mindfulness to support well-being,

Opening your Ear to the Great Below

Lastly, I wanted to share an offering from the very wonderful and aforementioned Jackie Singer - there are just one or two spaces on her workshop on the 8th of November

"A day-long deep immersion.  Rest and descend into the composting season with the ancient Sumerian story of Inanna and Ereskigal, through mythic embodiment and somatic practices.  This is a group retreat open to adult women/femme identifying folks.  Guided and facilitated by Jackie Singer (in person) and Tracy Chipman (on a live video link from USA)."
